Check out this year’s promo for the Feb. 27, 2016 Clark Park Winter Carnival and Charity Classic Outdoor Hockey game! Both events are free and show southwest Detroit at its best! Special thanks to my bosses at Fox 2 Detroit for not only supporting this most worthy event, but for the time, creative talent and energy that went into producing this PSA!
Ice skating, carriage rides, face-painting – what more could you ask? It’s the annual Clark Park Winter Carnival, Saturday February 27th in the heart of Southwest Detroit.
It’s family fun – with food, a petting zoo, music and more from Noon until 4:00pm!
Then, join FOX 2’s M.L. Elrick for the Clark Park Winter Carnival Hockey Classic at 6:30pm. M.L. leads one team while local defense attorney Mike Rataj leads the other. They haven’t always seen eye to eye but this face off is all for a great cause. It’s all in support of Clark Park – a place that provides year-round opportunities for kids and families.
All funds raised go to the Clark Park Coalition, which was formed in 1991 when the City of Detroit closed Clark Park during a fiscal crisis. Parents and residents of Southwest Detroit created the Coalition, which works with the Detroit Recreation Department to keep the park open.
You can learn more about the event here: http://blog.clarkparkdetroit.com/?p=647
The Clark Park Coalition provides amazing opportunities for children – offering one of the nation’s only free inner-city hockey programs, on the only regulation-sized outdoor ice hockey rink in Metro Detroit. They also offer athletics and after-school youth programming.

“A place to go and be kids.”
Our Hockey Classic is just over a week away! ML Elrick and Mike Rataj will be squaring up on the ice for the second year, a fantastic end to our Annual Winter Carnival on this 25th Anniversary of the Clark Park Coalition!
Click here to hear Elrick and Rataj talk about why the park is so special both for the southwest community and the city of Detroit. The show aired Friday morning, February 18th.
As Miss Kate likes to say, “It is one of the few jewels in the city of Detroit left in the neighborhoods.”
Mr. Elrick says skating at Clark Park “Makes you feel like a kid again. When we give kids in this city and everywhere an opportunity to do something positive, that’s what is going to save us. It’s about getting the kids moving in the right direction.”
Support the Carnival and Classic on our GoFundMe page – every amount counts!
We hope to see you next Saturday, February 27th for our afternoon Carnival from 12-4PM, and Hockey Classic at 6:30PM!
Join us at Clark Park for our Annual Winter Carnival!
When: Saturday, February 27th from 12-4PM
Where: Clark Park, 1130 Clark St. Detroit, MI 48209
Who: You! This is a family friendly event for all ages.
The Carnival will feature fun outdoor activities such as marshmallow roasting, ice skating, carriage rides, outdoor games, and a petting zoo, just to name a few! As a fitting end to the day’s activities, the Clark Park Hockey Classic is back by popular demand! Fox TV’s M.L. Elrick and attorney Mike Rataj will once again face off in a grudge match on the ice to benefit the park. It’s a game you won’t want to miss.
